Lower Back Pain – Acute
Lower back pain is likely and usually experienced by the physically working men and women that labor throughout the day. We differentiate between ‘acute lower back pain’ and ‘chronic lower back pain’.
In Acupuncture, the concept of ‘acute lower back pain’ is called ‘sprained waist’ and the pain is felt with during activities, improper posture, lifting heavy objects, extreme exercise, lifting while curving/twisting the back or prolonged work while in unnatural position. Additionally, if the backbone experiences an impact or trauma, the tender tissues could be damaged. In some severe cases, the ligament or muscle could tear or the disc(s) could become herniated and/or dislocated from the lumbar vertebra joint. The pain will be felt for about 1/2 of the first day of trauma and after that other forms of pain will be manifest.
It is natural for someone in this condition not to want to move because of the pain but that is not beneficial to your backbone; Realize that even sneezing can cause pain as well as almost any body movement.
Normally you will notice a “tightness” or “squeezing pain” and even perhaps a sort of “pulling pain”. This pain experience is more intense than the inception of the injury.
Should you experience a sprain, most cases a hematoma could be present.
